Legislation co-sponsored by Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) allowing for the direct shipment of cider today passed the state Senate. Senate bill S556 would allow cider makers to ship their products to consumers statewide and nationally. Given New York’s status as a leader of hard cider and apple production, this legislation would help this important industry continue to grow and succeed.
“New York State is a national leader in cider production and sales, despite the fact it’s one of 18 states that doesn’t allow for direct shipment,” said Stec. “Passing this bill would help make these popular, locally produced goods more accessible to a larger audience and help our cider makers and apple farms continue to grow and develop.
“I’m pleased this legislation passed the Senate this year and I urge the Assembly to do the same before the end of Legislative Session in the coming weeks,” he added.
