January 22, 2022
Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today participated in the flag-raising ceremony marking the kick-off for the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games. Stec was a guest speaker at the event celebrating the second-largest winter multi-sporting event in the world, which begins on January 12, 2023.
“It was truly an honor to take part in the ceremony marking one year until the start of the 2023 FISU World University Games,” Stec said. “This event is great for our local economy, but more importantly it allows the world to witness some of the best student-athletes from around the globe compete right here in the Adirondacks. I look forward to the 2023 Games and the opportunity for thousands of people to experience all our beautiful and historic region has to offer.”
Roughly 1,600 student-athletes from 50 nations and 600 universities will come together to participate in the FISU World University Games. To bolster the Games and harness its potential, Governor Kathy Hochul recently proposed $105 million to fund them in her 2022-23 Executive Budget.
“I was encouraged to see the governor propose $105 million in funding to support Lake Placid and the 2023 FISU World University Games,” Stec added. “In the weeks ahead, I look forward to working with the governor and my legislative colleagues to ensure that funding is in the final, enacted state budget this spring.”
