Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today called on Governor Hochul and the state Legislature to suspend the state gas tax. With the cost of gas skyrocketing in the past six months and the international energy crisis caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, lifting this 48-cent-per-gallon tax would provide desperately needed relief for residents.
In addition, Stec called on Democrats to reject the state Climate Action Council’s proposal to add an additional 55-cent-per-gallon gas tax to fund “green” initiatives. With the continually escalating cost of gas, New Yorkers simply can’t afford yet another costly fee.
“If you live in this region, you need your car to get to work, or go anywhere,” Stec said. “You're already paying more than ever before for gas and yet another fee would be crippling.
“Instead of instituting new gas taxes, let’s suspend the gas tax,” he added. “Suspending the 48-cent-per gallon gas tax would provide that and give our residents the immediate relief they need while coping with skyrocketing inflation and the ongoing energy crisis.”
In addition, Senator Stec has a petition calling for the state to suspend the gas tax. That can be found at https://www.nysenate.gov/petitions/daniel-g-stec/say-no-gas-tax
