Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today honored North Country Underground Historical Association President Jacqueline Madison at the 2022 New York State Senate Outstanding Librarian Awards. Madison, a Beekmantown resident who works out of the North Star Underground Railroad Museum at Ausable Chasm, was one of 10 honorees chosen by a pool of peers and library-related professionals.
In being honored, Madison was commended for “preserving and sharing the lives and stories of Northern New York's Underground Railroad history” through her work as a podcast contributor and co-author of a book highlighting the history of slaves and free people of color in our region. Stec was pleased to join the Senate in celebrating Madison and giving her an official Senate proclamation honoring her for her achievements and commitments.
“I’d like to congratulate Jacqueline Madison for being named one of our state’s finest librarians,” Stec said. “Through her work with the North Star Underground Railroad Museum, she provides a vital service and commitment to education and sharing our history. She’s greatly deserving of the New York State Senate Outstanding Librarian Award and it was a pleasure to join in honoring her.”
