Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today joined a diverse coalition of victims’ rights’ advocates at a rally for public safety reforms. The rally was led by Sammy Ravelo, a retired NYPD Lieutenant who walked 142 miles from the Bronx to the state Capitol to raise awareness for this issue.
Stec has made public safety a top priority as state Senator, from calling for a full repeal of bail reform to his opposition to the Clean Slate legislation that recently passed the Senate Codes Committee. In joining advocates at the event, he noted the need to protect crime victims and enact public safety measures that can stop the rising violent crime rates plaguing New York State.
“New Yorkers have made their voices clear on this issue: we need to make our communities safe and stop the spate of policies that have led to an increase in violent crime over the past three years,” Stec said. “I was proud to stand in support of victims’ rights and common sense public safety reforms with a non-partisan group of crime victims, community advocates and law enforcement.
“Sammy Ravelo walked 142 miles to deliver his message to put communities before violent criminals,” he continued. “I sincerely hope that the governor and Legislature listened and will restore some sanity to our criminal justice system.”
