Stec Votes Against Senate One-House Budget and its Reckless Spending

Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today voted against the Senate one-house budget resolution, citing its reckless spending. Coming in at over $229 billion, the Senate Democrats’ plan is a massive 23 percent increase from the enacted budget of just two years ago.

“For years, we’ve faced the consequences of New York State’s excessive spending in the form of high taxes and an escalating cost of living,” said Stec. “The budget presented by Senate Democrats today would only continue that trend and compel residents to seek more affordable locations elsewhere.

“We can’t afford this budget’s increased spending and if enacted, it would be unsustainable. We must be more judicious in how we allocate taxpayer funds,” he added. “I am pleased, however, to see a few items in the Senate’s budget that I’ve been calling for, such as the elimination of the broadband fiber optic tax and increased funding for our veterans. I was encouraged to see the Senate one-house budget addresses shifting some costs of the Hudson River Black River Regulating District away from their home counties and back to the state.

“As we move forward with budget negotiations, I want to ensure our state respects our tax dollars and spends on essential services, and not on expensive, unnecessary programs,” Stec concluded.
