CLARKSTOWN, NY - Senator Elijah Reichlin-Melnick (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced that he has secured $510,000 in state grants for projects in Clarkstown. The grant funds will be used to upgrade basketball and pickleball courts at Germonds Park, purchase a new sidewalk snowplow, and sidewalk installation and streetscaping in West Nyack. The grants come through the State and Municipal (SAM) Grants Program.
“Working directly with local communities to identify projects that are eligible for grants is one important way that I am able to deliver state money to my district and help alleviate some of the burden on local taxpayers,” said Senator Reichlin-Melnick. “I’m pleased to have secured this grant money to support Clarkstown’s exciting projects that will help improve sidewalk safety for pedestrians and encourage more people to enjoy Germonds Park.”
Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehman said, “Clarkstown appreciates Senator Reichlin-Melnick's work to secure over a half million dollars in funding to support important initiatives in our community. These grants will help us clear sidewalks more quickly after winter storms, as well as substantially improve pedestrian conditions in West Nyack. Germonds Park is an active outdoor space for our community, and the upgrades to the basketball and pickleball courts will be enjoyed by Clarkstown residents of all ages.”
These are the three projects that will be funded with the grant dollars that Senator Reichlin-Melnick secured for Clarkstown:
- $180,000 for sidewalk installation and streetscape improvements in the hamlet center of West Nyack
- $175,000 for purchase of sidewalk snowplow
- $155,000 for renovation of Germonds Park basketball courts as well as the construction of a pickleball court
