Area State Legislators Earn NFIB’s “Guardian of Small Business” Award
October 19, 2022
JAMESTOWN, NY – New York State Senator George Borrello and Assemblyman Andy Goodell have each earned the “Guardian of Small Business” award from the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy group.
The Guardian award is the highest honor NFIB bestows upon state legislators. It is reserved for legislators who voted with small business on NFIB key issues 100% of the time during the 2021-2022 legislative session.
“Our small businesses are truly the lifeblood of our state’s economy, employing more than half of New York’s workforce and enriching the quality of life in our communities immeasurably,” said Sen. George Borrello.
“As a small business owner myself, this award is very meaningful. One of the reasons I first entered public service was to be a voice for the small business owner who, too often, is overlooked and burdened by taxes and regulations from Albany. While I am proud of the focus and results I’ve been able to bring to some of these issues, there is still a lot of work to be done to improve the state’s support and climate for small business,” he added.
“My congratulations go out to my friend and colleague, Assemblyman Andy Goodell, who has also been recognized. We’ve worked together on many small business issues and in support of many of the local businesses we both represent,” Sen. Borrello said.
“We are not ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ but I am very pleased and honored that Senator Borrello and I received the ‘Guardian of Small Business’ award from the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB). We will continue to do our very best to help our small businesses, which provide great products, great service, and employ so many of our residents," said Assemblyman Andy Goodell.
“My thanks go out to NFIB for this great honor and for their own steadfast advocacy on behalf of New York’s small businesses. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and I look forward to fighting alongside my fellow NFIB members,” Senator Borrello concluded.
For more than 75 years, NFIB has been advocating on behalf of America’s small and independent business owners, both in Washington, D.C., and in all 50 state capitals. NFIB is nonprofit, nonpartisan, and member-driven. Since its founding in 1943, NFIB has been exclusively dedicated to small and independent businesses and remains so today.
