Senator Borrello Announces Legislation Designating Route 394 As 'Staff Sgt. David Textor Memorial Highway' Passes Senate

RANDOLPH – Sen. George Borrello has announced that legislation renaming Route 394 in the Town of Randolph as the “Staff Sergeant David Textor Memorial Highway” has passed the state Senate.  

 U.S. Army Staff Sgt. David Textor was killed in action in action on July 15, 2008, while conducting combat operations in Mosul, Iraq.   

 “Staff Sgt. Textor served our nation with valor and gave his life in defense of freedom and the ideals we hold most dear,” Sen. Borrello said. “We can never repay that debt. We can remember and honor Staff Sgt. Textor and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in our Armed Forces. Dedicating Route 394 through the town he grew up in is one small way we can honor the bravery, dedication and ultimate sacrifice of this American hero.”

At Randolph Central High School, Staff Sgt. Textor competed in football, wrestling and track. He was a member of the U.S. Army’s Company A, 3^rd Battalion, 1^st Special Forces (Airborne). Staff Sgt. Textor began the Special Forces Qualification Course in May of 2005. He earned the coveted “Green Beret” in November of 2006.

Legislation marking the designation, sponsored by Senator Borrello in the Senate and Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio in the Assembly, has passed the Senate and is expected to pass the Assembly before the end of the legislative session. Once passed by both houses, it will go to Gov. Kathy Hochul for her signature. 

“Staff Sgt. David Textor’s service in the United States Army was exemplary. As a Green Beret, he served in Iraq where he earned a number of awards for his actions,” Assemblyman Giglio said. “Tragically, Staff Sgt. Textor sacrificed his life as he fought for the freedom of people far from his home in rural Western New York. It was an honor to assist the people of his hometown by co-sponsoring legislation to rename a portion of State Route 394 in his memory so that his bravery and selflessness can never be forgotten.”

Staff Sgt. Textor’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral “2” Device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab and the Special Forces Tab.

 “Staff Sgt. Textor was a decorated combat veteran who devoted his life to serving his country,” Sen. Borrello said. “Naming this highway in his honor is a fitting tribute to his service and sacrifice. Now this roadway, which he traveled many times, will serve as a reminder to all who use it that freedom isn’t free. It’s secured through the bravery and sacrifice of people like Staff Sgt. Textor. I want to thank Assemblyman Giglio for co-sponsoring this legislation in the Assembly to honor Staff Sgt. Textor and I urge Gov. Hochul to sign the bill marking this designation as soon as possible.”
