Statement from Senator George Borrello on End of School Mask Mandate

“Governor Hochul’s announcement that the mask mandate for schools will end on Wednesday is welcome, but long overdue. Our strong and vocal advocacy to free our children from this unconstitutional edict was heard, and my thanks go out to all the parents and other advocates who helped us amplify our message.

Far from being based in science or common sense, this mandate, like the others, was more about expanding state government’s control. Governing by edict has no place in a democratic system. Whenever and wherever it happens, we will not be silent. We must not let the overreach of the past two years become precedent.”
