Statement by Senator George Borrello on Restore NY Funding for Silver Creek School Senior Apartments Project
December 20, 2022
SILVER CREEK – In response to the news that the Village of Silver Creek has been awarded a $1 million Restore New York grant to support the Silver Creek School Senior Apartments project, Senator George Borrello issued the following statement:
“The Village of Silver Creek received an early Christmas gift with today’s announcement that a $1 million Restore New York grant is on the way to help fund the transformation of the abandoned Silver Creek School into affordable housing for area seniors. This is an effort I’ve championed for more than a decade. Even as previous efforts fell through, I never gave up on the potential of this project and have remained engaged in the efforts to bring it to fruition.
“Region Nine Housing Corporation has gone above and beyond to move this effort from concept to reality, with the help of dedicated partners like Mayor Jeffrey Hornburg and the Village of Silver Creek, Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel, the County Legislature and the County IDA and numerous other individuals whose expertise, assistance and persistence have brought us closer than we’ve ever been to making this happen. Persistence pays off! I look forward to continuing to work with Region Nine, the Village of Silver Creek, and all those who share our vision for transforming this eyesore into a vital resource for our seniors and community.”
