Skoufis Distributes Thanksgiving Meals to 100 Families
November 23, 2022
Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) joined forces with TD Bank, the Hudson Valley Food Bank, and four other local nonprofits to get Thanksgiving meals into the hands of 100 Orange County families in need this week.
Beginning with a community canned goods drive, Skoufis’ team gathered nonperishables at their Newburgh office and several TD Bank locations throughout Orange County. TD also sponsored the purchase of 100 turkeys, which were then stored and transported by the Hudson Valley Food Bank before being distributed at the Senator’s giveaway event in Middletown on Tuesday. RECAP, HONOR, ABCD, and Jewish Family Services each identified 25 families most in need for the holiday distribution.
“All of our neighbors deserve a warm meal and a sense of home during the holiday season, no matter what form ‘home’ takes,” said Skoufis. “This Thanksgiving, I’m reminded of my deep gratitude for the many community partnerships we’ve been blessed to develop, and for all the work our area non-profits do to keep local families housed, supported, and fed.”
The Senator and his team also participated in a volunteer shift with Hudson Valley Food Bank the week prior, helping to sort and pack boxes of food for distribution across the region. The canned goods drive and turkey giveaway are an annual initiative by the Senator’s office.
