Senator Tedisco on the State of the State
Senator Jim Tedisco

“Sadly, it seems like the only business that’s doing well in New York State right now is U-Haul because over 319,000 New Yorkers packed-up their belongings and rolled out of the state in the past year. That’s not a good sign for the real state of our state!”
“New York has the dubious distinction of being ranked number one in out migration. What the Governor and the legislature must be advocating moving forward is an agenda change that incentivizes New Yorkers to stay and provides the opportunity for individuals and families to come and grow New York’s population and enable small businesses to create jobs.”
“The millions who have fled our state in the past decade and those who are now contemplating their exodus to a more taxpayer-friendly state have one thing in common: No one wants to be the last one left in New York to pay for our state’s overzealous taxes, regulations, mandates and laws!”
“I love New York!’ is New York’s slogan. Unfortunately, in New York State and in our Upstate communities, too many people are saying ‘I left New York!”
“There’s still hope that New York can be the Empire State again, but we can only accomplish that goal by changing the agenda in Albany to ensure safe, strong and healthy communities across the state by expanding job opportunities and improving our economic climate, making our state more affordable to live in and ensuring public safety for all residents by giving judges the discretion they need to end the revolving door of danger and disaster from bail reform. As Ranking Member of the Senate Mental Health and Education Committees, as a priority we need enhanced funding for services for mental health programs and people with disabilities that has been exacerbated by the pandemic. We also need more autonomy for local use of education dollars because of the different needs in urban, rural and suburban districts now that we have full Foundation Aid beginning to flow.”
