LIU: ONE YEAR LATER, STILL NO HELP FOR IDA VICTIMS
Bayside, NY -One year after Hurricane Ida’s devastating impact on flood prone areas in Queens like Hollis, Whitestone, Fresh Meadows, and Flushing, Senator John C. Liu today called on city and state governments to expedite their efforts to assist victims of the catastrophic storm, many of whom are thousands of dollars in debt because they have been denied all forms of aid from government and insurance.
Senator John Liu stated, “We are already well into Hurricane season and Queens residents are in no better position than they were a year ago when Hurricane Ida destroyed homes, property and took the lives of 11 of our neighbors. Despite endless promises, many homeowners today still face the same crushing repair bills they faced a year ago when Hurricane Ida flooded their homes and caused unimaginable damage. The city and states’ long-awaited recovery plans are welcome news, but way past overdue and still fail to address the most pressing needs of Ida victims. Without releasing funding to help victims pay for costly damages, too many constituents feel forgotten, left out and lied to, only to pray it won’t rain again. Unfortunately, these action plans fall short of real action when it comes to making families whole.”
