SYRACUSE, NY— Senator John W. Mannion today announced his nomination of Westhill High School Senior Bohdan "Bodie" Centore for the prestigious U.S. Presidential Scholar program is one of just 25 selected to advance by the State Education Department.
Senator John W. Mannion (SD-50) said, "Westhill High School Senior Bohdan ‘Bodie’ Centore is a shining example of the hard work and dedication that can lead to success in the classroom and in life. As one of the 25 students from New York nominated for the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, he is a true polymath who serves as class president, earned a gold medal in the Academic Decathlon, and excels in music and athletics. This well-rounded young man is a testament to the power of a quality education and the vital role teachers have in shaping the minds of future leaders like Bodie."
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is a prestigious national program that recognizes high school students for their academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, and service to their communities. Each year, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects scholars from among the top high school seniors in the country based on their academic success, artistic excellence, essays, school evaluations, and transcripts, as well as evidence of community service, leadership, and commitment to high ideals.
The State Education Department of New York has nominated 25 high school seniors from the state for the 2023 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. These students have demonstrated excellence in their academic pursuits and have made significant contributions to their communities.
Students who are chosen as U.S. Presidential Scholars will receive a medallion in June 2023. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program is one of the nation's highest honors for high school students, and being nominated is a recognition of their achievements and potential for future success.
