ROME - New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-I-C-Rome, presented a New York State Senate Commendation to RoAnn Destito, former New York State Commissioner of the Office of General Services (OGS) and state Assemblywoman.
The award recognizes exceptional people who have made a lasting contribution to their community.
Destito most recently served as OGS commissioner after her appointment to the position in May 2011, becoming the first woman to be appointed to head that office in the state’s history. During her tenure as commissioner, Destito oversaw renovations to the Capitol and other state buildings; the reopening of the Empire State Plaza's ice rink and adding businesses and restaurants to the plaza; creating the Division of Service-Disabled Veterans’ Business Development; and building a new expo center at the State Fair in Syracuse.
Prior to serving as OGS commissioner, Destito was an Assemblywoman from 1993 to 2011. She served on several Assembly committees, including the Ways and Means Committee, Majority Steering Committee, Budget Reform Conference Committee and Joint Assembly-Senate Conference Committee. Additionally, she served on the Legislative Commission on Science and Technology and the Temporary Joint Legislative Commission on Disaster Preparedness and Response.
“I am pleased to recognize RoAnn and to present her with a New York State Senate Commendation,” Sen. Griffo said. “RoAnn has been a hardworking and dedicated public servant and fierce advocate for the region. Throughout her time in state government, and now in retirement, RoAnn has demonstrated remarkable leadership and shown a strong commitment to improving her community, the Mohawk Valley and New York State.”
