- Roe v. Wade
"The news that broke overnight that the highest court in the land is preparing to overturn Roe v. Wade, which guarantees a woman’s right to privacy to make their own medical decisions, with immense implications regarding access to abortion healthcare, has been long part of Republican's plans. It is still shocking and deeply saddening news for so many people across the country.
The women that will be impacted the most by this impending decision from a politically motivated court will be predominantly marginalized women of color. While I and the New York State Legislature have codified Roe v. Wade and the rights afforded within around privacy, abortion and related care will be protected here, we must take the same step on the federal level to guarantee every women has those same protections.
Right now we must march, we must fight, we must vote and we must give all we can to ensure this potential decision is nullified by federal legislative and executive action. I am dedicated to working with my federal counterparts to enshrine the rights guaranteed under Roe v. Wade. This should be a wake-up call that we must remain vigilant, because this radical court and the far-right won't stop here."
