(Farmingdale, NY) - In honor of National Donate Life Month in April, the Village of Farmingdale held a flag-raising ceremony with New York State Senator Kevin Thomas as part of the gift of life organ donor awareness initiative. The April 20 gathering honored past, present, and future organ, eye, and tissue donors, as well as donors in spirt.
The concept of a flag raising is to make a unified statement about the importance of donation and represent the great need for donors and encourage people to register as a donor.
Senator Kevin Thomas said, "Over 9,000 New Yorkers are still waiting for a lifesaving transplant. In honor of National Donate Life Month, I encourage everyone to learn more about organ, eye and tissue donation, and consider becoming a part of this life-saving movement. Thank you to the selfless volunteers at LiveOnNY for working to educate and inspire our community about organ and tissue donation."
