October 21, 2022
GREENE COUNTY, NY – Senator Michelle Hinchey today announced that she secured $50,000 in state funding for Community Action of Greene County to support building restorations on a safe house for domestic violence (DV) victims. The appropriation, funded through the State and Municipal Facilities Capital Program, will be used to replace damaged windows and decayed siding and maintain the safety of the building, among other capital improvements.
“Supporting victims of domestic violence is a critical mission of Community Action, and I am proud to deliver capital funding to help upgrade the organization’s shelter so that victims and their children can begin to heal and move forward with their lives in a safe environment,” Senator Michelle Hinchey said. “I thank Executive Director Florence Ohle and the incredible staff at Columbia Greene Victims Services for all that they do to serve and support our community’s most vulnerable residents.”
Florence Ohle, Executive Director of Community Action of Greene County, said, “We are so very grateful to Senator Hinchey for securing this funding to perform much-needed repairs on our Greene County dwelling. This work is long overdue. Survivors and their children coming to us for residential services deserve to be met in safe, welcoming spaces, and this grant will see that that is a reality now. On behalf of our Board of Directors, staff, and those we serve, thank you!”
Community Action’s domestic violence services make up one of the organization’s largest programs, which operate in Greene as well as neighboring Columbia County.
