ALBANY, 01/18/22 -- State Senator Peter Oberacker (R/C – Schenevus) today commented on Governor Hochul’s state budget proposal:
“While a record number of people continue to pack up and leave New York, the governor’s solution is an overwhelming $216 billion budget that blows past the state spending cap and outpaces the budgets of Texas and Florida combined.
“Funding to improve our infrastructure – including broadband and cell service – is essential, along with support for our schools, and small businesses struggling mightily with crushing mandates. Healthcare and other key community services need to be preserved. I am supportive of smart investments in these areas as long as they meet true needs and are allocated fairly across the state.
“Most importantly, we need to lower the cost of living and increase opportunities. Property taxes continue to rise, businesses are unable to expand, and more individuals are plotting their permanent vacations from New York because they just can’t afford to stay.
“As we examine the details of the governor’s proposal during the upcoming budget hearings I will be working toward a fiscally sound plan that meets the needs of those I represent and helps set the stage for a revitalized upstate.”
