Ortt and Norris Seek State Traffic Safety Study For South Transit Street
May 10, 2022
LOCKPORT, NY – New York State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt and Assemblyman Mike Norris yesterday penned a letter to the New York State Department of Transportation calling for a traffic safety study of South Transit Street in the City of Lockport.
“For a second time in as many months, we have seen yet another devastating incident involving motorists and a pedestrian crossing South Transit Street. Because of these tragedies, I am joining with local and state elected officials to call on our state’s Department of Transportation to conduct a traffic safety study of South Transit Street, and I will continue to work with my colleagues to ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians, and all residents in our community, ” said Leader Ortt.
“I am pleased to join Senator Ortt in calling for a New York State Department of Transportation traffic safety study on South Transit Street in response to recent tragic incidents. A primary function of this agency is determining and assessing traffic safety, and road safety in a residential community with families and children is absolutely paramount,” said Assemblyman Mike Norris.
This unified call from Lockport state elected officials comes days after a second fatality occurred involving a pedestrian crossing South Transit Street. The letter was sent yesterday to the New York State Department of Transportation officially requesting a traffic safety study to be completed around the areas of these prior incidents on South Transit Street.
The letter is attached above.
