ALBANY, NY – The New York State Senate Republican Conference today re-elected Rob Ortt Leader of the Minority Conference. The leadership vote was held at the New York State Capitol ahead of the 2023-24 Legislative Session.
“It is incredibly humbling to earn the support of my Senate Republican colleagues to continue serving in the critical role of Minority Leader. I thank my colleagues and the New Yorkers they represent for their continued trust and faith in my leadership. As we approach a New Year and new session with eight energetic new members and our outstanding returning members, our expanded Conference will continue to be a leading voice of reason and common sense in Albany. There is much more work to be done to make our state safer and more affordable for all,” said Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt.
Rob Ortt was sworn in as State Senator for the 62nd District in January 2015, and elected Minority Leader in June 2020. From 2010-2014, Rob served as Mayor of North Tonawanda. Prior to becoming Mayor, he served as the City Treasurer and then, Clerk-Treasurer of North Tonawanda.
Rob enlisted in N.Y. Army National Guard in October 2001 in direct response to the terrorist attacks on September 11. He is a veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, where he served from March 2008 until December of the same year. His mission was to serve as a combat mentor/advisor to the Afghan National Police in Kandahar City, the second-largest city in Afghanistan. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal, and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge in recognition of his service.
“Since becoming Leader, I have heard from countless New Yorkers who are fed up with rising costs, rising crime, and a lack of checks and balances in our State Capitol. Our state’s rapidly declining population reflects that sentiment. It’s time for a change from the political establishment’s failed policies that have left families and businesses behind. My Senate Republican colleagues and I will not stop fighting for that change and the people we represent,” concluded Leader Ortt.
Republican Leadership and Committee assignments will be released in the near future.
Rob lives in North Tonawanda with his wife, Meghan.
