SENATOR SEAN RYAN CELEBRATES STATE INVESTMENT IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN KENMORE

Project Will Create Affordable Senior Housing at the Historic St. Paul's Catholic School

BUFFALO – Today, July 6, 2022, New York State Senator Sean Ryan celebrated news of $4 million in state funding for an affordable housing development in the Village of Kenmore. The Victoria Place project will convert the historic St. Paul's Catholic School into 37 apartments for seniors 55 and older. The school has been vacant for a decade; this transformation will prevent a historic structure from being demolished and provide much-needed affordable housing for seniors in Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda.

The funding was announced today by Governor Kathy Hochul as part of $104 million awarded to 16 developments across New York, which will produce 864 affordable homes. The awards are part of New York's $25 billion, five-year comprehensive statewide housing plan to make housing more affordable, equitable, and stable. The plan will increase housing supply by creating or preserving 100,000 affordable homes across New York, including 10,000 with support services for vulnerable populations, and will fund the electrification of an additional 50,000 homes.

Senator Sean Ryan said, “So many seniors today want to be able to downsize and spend their golden years in their own communities, but affordable housing options are often difficult to find. That is why our state has created a long-term plan to invest in affordable housing to support developments here in Western New York and across the state. The Victoria Place project will create more housing options for seniors in Kenmore, while at the same time preserving a historic school that is beloved in the community.”
