STATEMENT FROM SENATOR SEAN RYAN ON FEDERAL JUDGE UPHOLDING NEW YORK GUN LAW
ALBANY – Today, May 25, 2022, New York State Senator Sean Ryan released the following statement regarding the dismissal of a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a 2021 New York law allowing the state to sue companies in the gun industry for endangering public safety:
“It is long past time for us, as a nation, to do something about the gun industry’s role in the shootings that take thousands of lives each year in our country. Gun violence in the United States is a public health crisis, and we need to treat it as one. Last year, we passed a commonsense law to hold firearm manufacturers accountable for their role in the deadly shootings that destroy communities here in New York and across America. In doing so, New York cemented its role as a leader in the fight against our country’s culture of gun violence. I applaud today’s decision to uphold the law, and I thank Attorney General James for defending the law in the face of the gun lobby’s efforts to strike it down.”
