Senator Shelley B. Mayer Statement on the One Year Anniversary of the Attack of the Capitol
January 6, 2022
"Today we remember the horrifying images of the United States Capitol, one of our greatest symbols of democracy, under attack. The violent event was shocking to each of us and will forever be remembered as a dark day in American history. America's leadership in the world has always been based upon our steadfast belief in the rule of law and deep respect for our democratic institutions, including the peaceful transition of power. Those beliefs were directly attacked on that day and we can neither forget nor forgive. It is the responsibility of all elected officials and all Americans of every political view to ensure that all who were responsible be held accountable."
