SENATOR SUE SERINO AND THE WAPPINGERS CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT TEAM UP TO HELP STUDENTS ‘PLAN FOR A FUTURE THAT WORKS!’
March 2, 2022
When: Thursday, April 28, 2022; 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Where: Roy C. Ketcham High School (99 Myers Corners Road, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590)
As part of an ongoing effort to engage students in the trades, Senator Sue Serino is teaming up with the Wappingers Central School District to host a free, informational skilled trades fair to give local students and families the ability to learn more about different opportunities and career paths available in these industries in the local area. A diverse range of industry representatives will be on hand to speak with students, young adults and parents, as well as answer questions and share information to help interested students plan for a future that works.
“Our goal is always to ensure that our young people are prepared for 21st Century careers, and as technology evolves, so do the opportunities that come along with a future in the trades,” said Senator Serino. “For students who may be starting to consider their next steps, it’s so important to remember that there is no ‘one size fits all approach,’ and this event is all about giving students a firsthand look at the many unique possibilities available to them. After hosting a number of virtual events in this regard, we are thrilled to be able to host this event in person and look forward to connecting students and families with the local businesses and organizations that make our community work.”
Dr. Dwight Bonk, Superintendent of the Wappingers Central School District said, “I am pleased that Senator Serino is leading the charge to continue to enhance the amount of career and technical opportunities available for our students. It is necessary for our students to see first hand, these potential opportunities that exist in the skilled trades so that they can begin to consider their interest in such. These types of opportunities are currently available in the skilled trades field. Business and education must continue to work collaboratively on these types of efforts.”
David Seipp, Principal of Roy C. Ketcham High School said, “We are honored to be hosting the 2022 Skilled Trades Career Fair with Senator Serino at Roy C. Ketcham High School. I am excited to provide our students and families the opportunity to learn about different skilled trades and career paths for our youth. Exposure to the world of work provides opportunities for students to build connections with professionals outside their usual family networks and enriches their school and learning experience as they plan for their future.”
This free event is scheduled for Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is open to the public and students from surrounding school districts. No RSVP is required to attend.
Members of local trades organizations and businesses who employ members of the trades who may be interested in hosting an informational table at the event should contact Senator Serino’s Hyde Park Office by calling 845-229-0106 or emailing serino@nysenate.gov to request a participation form. Space is limited, and spots will be secured on a first-come, first-serve basis. RSVP’s will be accepted until Friday, April 8th. Businesses will have the opportunity to network and connect with local students and young adults who may be interested in learning more about pursuing a career in their respective trade.
