Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) brought his bill to repeal the controversial HALT Act (Senate bill S.3035) up for a vote in front of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections “It’s disturbing that despite the overwhelming amount of data showing how unsafe HALT has been, Senate Democrats refused to take up my measure to repeal it,” said Stec. “Corrections officers and civilian staff have repeatedly expressed support for my legislation, as it would provide them with a crucial tool in protecting themselves and other incarcerates from violent and disruptive inmates. Action to quell the rising rates of assault in correctional facilities is needed, and I plan to continue advocating for my bill and other common sense solutions.
“I will not stop fighting on behalf of our COs and civilian staff, and will keep pushing to get them the support and resources they need to restore safety in these facilities,” he concluded.
