New York State Senator Dean Murray was joined in Albany by his family for his official swearing-in and the opening day of session. As part of the opening day’s business Senator Murray received his committee assignments.
"I'm very excited and thankful for Leader Ortt's confidence in me to serve as the Ranking Minority Member on three separate committees while also serving as a committee member on three other committees. As a small business owner for over 25 years, I'm happy to be able to tap into my years of business experience as I serve as the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate's Commerce, Economic Development & Small Business Committee,” said NYS Senator Murray.
The Senator was also appointed to serve as the Ranking Minority Member on the Senate's Social Services Committee and the Senate's Libraries Committee. In addition to those committees, Murray was also appointed to serve as a member of the Senate's Budget and Review Committee, Senate Codes Committee and Senate Higher Education Committee.
"All of these committees play a vital role in providing guidance and taking action on legislation as well as giving direction on providing important services to the people of New York. I look forward to working with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, in all of these committees, to make sure we always do what it best for the people we serve," added Murray.
During the swearing-in ceremony in the NYS Senate Chamber, Murray was accompanied by his mother, Thelma Peerce, his two sisters, Dawn Schaefer and Wanda Worrell and his friend, NYS Assemblyman Ed Flood.
