From the Desk of Senator Jack M. Martins: It’s time. Join Me In The Fight Against Antisemitism.

I always tell my kids: A mistake made once is a mistake. Made two or three times and it becomes a choice. 

That’s how I feel about the shocking rise of antisemitic incidents across New York State and the pathetic response from officials who should be outraged. 

The Anti-Defamation League tells us that antisemitic incidents reached an all-time high in the United States last year. What’s worse, that trend holds true for New York. New York!!! And yet it hardly raises an eyebrow.  I daresay, there is almost a blatant double-standard as to how these hate crimes are being treated.  And that’s a choice, not a mistake. 

It’s time we sound the alarm. This is a call for all good people, from all faiths, backgrounds and political persuasions to come together and stop this before it gets any worse.  

I’m holding a roundtable with Jewish leaders and fellow senators to discuss the problem, and more important, what can be done about it.  This is a non-partisan effort open to any Long Islander who wants to combat hate. And you’re invited.
