SENATOR RAMOS ON THE CONFIRMATION OF CAITLIN HALLIGAN TO THE NEW YORK STATE COURT OF APPEALS
“Even before meeting Caitlin Halligan, it was clear that she has built a career that has earned her high esteem in the legal community. Whether in the private or public sector, she has clearly embraced the value of zealous advocacy for her clients.
During her confirmation, Ms. Halligan pointed out that the position of a judge is different than that of an attorney. Just as we want everyone to have an advocate in the courtroom, we want judges who will value everyone’s right to be heard. I will be voting to move Caitlin Halligan out of the Judiciary Committee without recommendation, where I intend to vote with my colleagues to confirm her. Under the leadership of Chief Judge Wilson, I will choose to remain hopeful that she will play an active role in getting the Court of Appeals back on track.”
