STATEN ISLAND, NY – Senator Scarcella-Spanton, who was sworn into office this January, has passed Senate Bill S2223, which will ensure that a plan for the delivery of medical supplies and medications to pharmacies, hospitals and nursing homes in affected areas during a state disaster emergency is required.
“Coming from Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn, where Hurricane Sandy impacted our borough so severely, ensuring that our pharmacies, hospitals and nursing homes are equipped with life saving medical supplies can be the difference between life and death during a natural disaster” said Senator Scarcella-Spanton, Chair of the Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee.
This bill clarifies the underlying chapter through requiring a coordinated plan for the delivery of medical supplies and medications to pharmacies, hospitals and nursing homes located within any area declared to be experiencing a disaster emergency. It stems from Senate Bill S1086, which was sponsored by Senator James Gaughran, and Assembly Bill A1905, which was sponsored by Assemblyman Dinowitz, which were an act to amend the executive law, in relation to state disaster preparedness plans.
