[Bronx, N.Y, July 31, 2023] — Senator José M. Serrano announced $150,000 in funding for libraries within the 29th Senate District. The funding was secured during this year’s state budget, and will support library programming in three libraries located in the South Bronx and East Harlem. Senator Serrano made the announcement alongside branch managers from the New York Public Library at the historic Mott Haven Library in the Bronx.
“Libraries are vital to the well-being of our communities, offering New Yorkers countless opportunities to learn and thrive. Our local libraries play a pivotal role in our society. They encourage reading, provide places to study, help facilitate job searches, encourage professional growth, support English language learners, and bridge the digital divide for those without computer or internet access,” said Senator Serrano. “The New York Public Library branches in the 29th Senate District have consistently delivered essential services and diverse programs for people of all ages, and I am proud to support them through this programmatic funding.”
“The New York Public Library is proud to offer all New Yorkers access to free resources and services that enhance and enrich their lives,” said Kathleen Carrasco, Bronx Borough Director for the New York Public Library. “The funding provided by State Senator Serrano allows the branches in his district to continue the important work they do every day to serve their communities, and we are grateful for his generous support.”
The recipients of this funding include the Mott Haven and the High Bridge Branches in the Bronx, and the Aguilar Branch in East Harlem.
