More than one hundred community members joined State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. and Community Board 9 to show support during their Autism and Developmental Disabilities Awareness Walk at Smokey Oval on Sunday, May 7. It was a wonderful afternoon filled with sunshine, laughter and most importantly, an outpouring of support for those with autism and other developmental disabilities.
“The level of support that was shown this weekend was just incredible,” Addabbo said. “This walk was created to raise awareness of what we need to do in government — such as providing more robust funding for organizations and policy that protects and provides more care and opportunities for these individuals and their families. It was heartwarming to see so many people spend a beautiful Sunday afternoon with us in Richmond Hill walking around Smokey Oval in support of our family, friends, and neighbors with autism or developmental disabilities.”
