As we approach Earth Day 2023 on April 22, State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. is encouraging school kids to join this year’s New York State Senate Earth Day Celebration.
This year’s theme is “Ways We Can Make Every Day Earth Day!” with the goal of helping children to develop an awareness of the environment and its resources. Teaching children about the importance of recycling and waste reduction is crucial as we continue to face the environmental challenges of the modern world.
The Earth Day Celebration is for school children in grades K-12 to create a poster, essay, poem or other piece of artwork to promote the exchange of ideas about recycling and waste reduction among schools, children and adults, and to stimulate creative thinking about solutions to problems concerning recycling and waste reduction. Teachers are encouraged to submit the students’ artwork on Addabbo’s Senate webpage.
“It is our hope in the Senate with this Earth Day Celebration to emphasize the importance of recycling and the positive impact that it has on the Earth,” Addabbo said. “Our students are the future, and we want to ensure that they have a healthy and habitable planet for years to come. I encourage teachers to have their students create these posters with their ideas on how we can better take care of the planet that we all call home.”
The deadline for all submissions to be uploaded to the website is Friday, April 14, 2023. The link to the website is here: https://www.nysenate.gov/eform/submit/earth-day.
Teachers are asked to fill out the class and school information on the form, then enter all of their students on the online form. Entries should be photographed and submitted electronically, preferably in jpeg or pdf format. Please enter each student individually as the Senate cannot accept a single pdf with all of the students grouped together.
For parents of Homeschoolers, please enter parent name and email in teacher fields, select the elementary school associated with your place of residence, and choose "Homeschool" for grade. You may optionally enter your child's grade next to their name.
