Griffo statement on late budget
April 1, 2023
"It is now April 1st. We have officially passed the state budget deadline and there have been no concrete discussions or indications by the legislative majorities whether we are anywhere near an agreement on most of the major aspects in the budget.
A late budget has fiscal implications for our state, putting the funding of critical state programs in limbo, leaving schools and municipalities waiting to enact their own budgets in the dark and the pay of our hardworking state employees in jeopardy. What is even more alarming is that some of our essential state workers may not get paid. More than 55,000 state workers, including corrections officers and health care workers, are going to spend the weekend wondering if they are going to get a paycheck next week.
Unfortunately, it is no surprise that Albany’s one-party rule is negotiating an unsustainable budget with little or no transparency. New Yorkers deserve an on time and fiscally responsible budget.
The New York State Senate Republican Conference and I will continue to fight for you and to ensure we have a safer, stronger and more affordable New York."
