Griffo: Students can now apply for New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators Scholarships
March 3, 2023
New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-C-Rome, is encouraging area high school seniors and current college students to apply for the 2023 New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators Academic and Athletic Scholarships.
This year, the Conference is awarding academic and athletic scholarships in the amount of $4,000.
Applicants should have a grade point average of 85 or higher; be active in community service and extracurricular activities; demonstrate financial need; and in the case of the athletic scholarship, be involved in an organized sport or sports.
Scholarships are available to residents of New York who are current college students or high school seniors entering college. They also must reside in the district of a conference member. Sen. Griffo’s district includes all of Oneida and Madison counties and parts of Herkimer and Chenango counties.
Area students can apply for the scholarship by visiting the Conference’s website at https://www.nyiacsl.org/scholarships.
The deadline for applications is Monday, March 27. Applications will be evaluated by a review board and scholarship winners will be presented with their award at a ceremony tentatively scheduled for May 22.
“The price of attending college is a very serious concern for many students and families throughout New York State,” Sen. Griffo said. “This is a chance to help students lessen the burden of college debt and to defray some of the expenses incurred when seeking higher education. I encourage every eligible student in my district to apply for this scholarship.”
The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators is a bipartisan organization of state Assembly and Senate members who actively promote and celebrate the state’s Italian-American community. Sen. Griffo has been an active member of the Conference and has served as Past President of the organization.
