Addabbo to Distribute Free Flood Prevention Hydra Barriers at His District Offices
October 5, 2023
In response to the recent heavy rains and flooding in his district, Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. will be distributing free flood prevention Hydra Barriers on a first come, first served basis at his District Offices in Woodhaven and Middle Village beginning Monday, October 16, 2023, during regular business hours. The 300 barriers, which were provided by the NYC Department of Environmental Protection, are available in 12 feet, 6 feet, and 4 feet in length. Due to the limited supply, only one barrier will be given per person, and each recipient must live in Senator Addabbo’s district. Constituents must provide photo ID with proof of address.
A Hydra Barrier is a reusable, water-filled barrier used as an alternative to the sandbag. It can be used to prevent water from getting through doorways, garages, yards, and other areas. The water-filled barriers are refillable and easy to store when not needed.
“This most recent storm that barreled down on our city reminds us of the need to protect one’s property from water damage,” Addabbo said. “I would like to thank the NYC DEP for providing these Hydra Barriers, which will help us take a pro-active approach to flood damage prevention.”
