Addabbo Partners With New York Cares to Collect Winter Coats For Those In Need
October 23, 2023
Senator Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr. has partnered with New York Cares to serve as a collection site for the winter coat drive. The coat drive aims to collect 100,000 coats city-wide this year to be distributed to those in need throughout New York City during the colder months. The New York Cares drive has been running for 34 years and has already collected and distributed 2.5 million coats thanks to the generosity of New Yorkers.
Coats can be dropped off at either of Senator Addabbo's District Offices, located at 84-16 Jamaica Avenue in Woodhaven or 66-85 73rd Place in Middle Village. The drop-off hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“I think we all have a coat in our closet that we don’t wear anymore,” Addabbo said. “Instead of taking up space, donate that coat to someone who really needs it. No one should go cold this winter. I am proud to be partnering with New York Cares as a collection site to help this important program.”
New York Cares, a nonprofit organization founded in 1987, is dedicated to meeting pressing needs by engaging volunteers in service. Once coats are collected, New York Cares works closely with various organizations across the city to distribute them to those in need. Coats are sorted at the Coat Drive Warehouse with the help of volunteers and then sent to nonprofit social service agencies, public schools, religious institutions, and transitional housing shelters. These organizations support individuals and families who require assistance during the winter months.
By participating in the coat drive, individuals can make a meaningful contribution to their community and help keep New Yorkers warm during the colder seasons.
