Harlem, NY- State Senator Kevin Parker who represents the 21st Senatorial District in Brooklyn proudly participated in the Harlem Cares Prostate Cancer Walk aimed at putting the spotlight on this disease during this month recognized as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Community members, survivors, and organizations united to raise awareness about prostate cancer emphasizing the importance of early detection and proactive measures. Senator Parker has long been committed to supporting men's health particularly concerning prostate cancer and his proactive involvement in initiatives dedicated to spreading awareness and empowering communities to prioritize their prostate health has earned him accolades as a prominent figure in the fight against this debilitating disease.
Expressing his dedication to the cause, Senator Parker said: "Prostate cancer continues to pose a significant threat to the well-being of our community particularly among Black and Brown men. As we mark Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, it is imperative that we equip individuals with the knowledge and resources necessary to detect, treat, and overcome this disease. By walking alongside organizations like Harlem Cares, we are sending the message that no one fights alone, and our collective energy will help combat this horrible illness.”
Larry Scott Blackmon, the event organizer and a resilient prostate cancer survivor expressed heartfelt gratitude for Senator Parker's dedication and unwavering support. "I extend my sincerest thanks to Senator Parker for his tireless efforts in raising awareness for men's health,” he said. “He remains a steadfast advocate, ensuring that men, particularly Black and Brown men, are well informed about their prostate health. This issue hits close to home for so many of us and as a survivor, I appreciate Senator Parker's energy, passion, and active participation in walking alongside us as we fight this terrible disease."
Gavin M. Maxwell, President of the Prince Hall Lodge Medical Foundation highlighted the significance of the event in fostering awareness within the Harlem community. Maxwell stated, "This walk serves as a crucial first step in creating broad awareness about prostate cancer among our community in Harlem. We hope that by inspiring individuals to seek preventive measures, we can empower them to live healthier lives."
