Senator Kevin Parker Wraps Up Successful Story Time Event at Brooklyn Public Library’s Mill Basin Branch

Brooklyn, NY- In a display of community support, NY State Senator Kevin Parker participated in a memorable story time session at the New York Public Library branch in Mill Basin. The book of choice for the excited students was Oge Mora's heartwarming "Saturday.”
The event, a collaboration between Senator Parker and Senior Children's Librarian Anne Lautner, brought together students from PS 236, creating an enriching and exciting experience for all in attendance. To add to the charm of the occasion, the esteemed President and CEO of the Brooklyn Public Library, Linda Johnson, graciously hosted the reading for the children.
Reflecting on the event, Senator Kevin Parker beamed: "I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to bring joy to the children and contribute to strengthening community bonds. Initiatives like this are instrumental in building connections and fostering a shared sense of belonging. Through storytelling, we can inspire young minds and encourage a love for reading that will last a lifetime," he said.
"Storytime at the Library is one of our favorite traditions," said Ms. Johnson. "We are grateful to Senator Parker, who has been a longtime champion of libraries, for stopping by Mill Basin Library in this new neighborhood in his district and sharing his favorite book with our youngest patrons."
Anne Lautner, the Senior Children's Librarian at the Branch, said: "Books are a wonderful way to learn about the world around you, and we were thrilled to have Senator Parker join us for stories and songs."
The event commenced with a walk-through tour of the Mill Basin Library, during which Senator Parker engaged with library staff, visitors, and community members alike. Following the tour, Senator Parker extended warm greetings to the community in attendance, setting the stage for an unforgettable story time session. The participating students were a captive audience as Senator Parker read aloud and shared his passion for literature while kindling the magic of storytelling within the young hearts and minds.
