ALBANY, N.Y. – Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris issued the following statement following reports of a shooting outside Temple Israel in Albany on the first night of Hanukkah.
“Today’s incident is a reminder why we must do more to keep all New Yorkers safe from hate. While details are still emerging, it is clear an individual discharged a shotgun at a Temple and close to Jewish schools – which is an abhorrent offense. This is why I have called on Governor Hochul to include $90 million in security funding for nonpublic schools so we can keep our children safe from hate.”
