New Apartment Construction In Wyandanch Receives $48 Million In Financing
August 3, 2023
HAUPPAUGE, NY, August 3, 2023 – State Senator Monica R. Martinez announced that $48 million in financing has been allocated toward a new, 81-unit housing development in Wyandanch targeting households earning between 30 to 70 percent of the area median income (AMI). The award is part of the state’s $875 million effort to increase the housing supply while providing support services that allow seniors, veterans and vulnerable populations to live independently.
An existing Wyandanch commercial building at 309 Merritt Avenue near the Long Island Railroad will be demolished to make way for the Alegria North. The twenty-one apartments will be set aside for special needs populations supported by Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI) subsidies.
“This investment demonstrates the state’s commitment in building a better Wyandanch through affordable housing for its residents,” said Senator Monica R. Martinez. “In turn, the community will attract new businesses that will grow and flourish there,” she added.
