Senator Helming Presents New York State Senate Commendation Award to Doug Parmele of Manchester

Senator Pam Helming presented the New York State Senate Commendation Award to Doug Parmele of Manchester during a recent Town of Manchester Board meeting.   

Doug was recognized for his dedication to his community, exceptional work to preserve the history of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, and inspirational leadership. Doug is the only known living locomotive engineer from the Lehigh Valley Railroad in our area.   

Co-Founder of Railroad History of Steam Engines and the Manchester Model Railroad Association, Doug retired from CSX Transportation in June of 2022 after 42 years in the railroad industry.   

The New York State Senate Commendation Award honors an individual who exemplifies the spirit of community, philanthropy, and leadership.   

Senator Helming said, “The history of trains has been Doug’s passion for more than forty-years. It has been his life’s work to share his knowledge, time and energy educating others about the history and importance of train travel. For his dedication and many years of service in the railroad industry, I am proud to honor him with a New York State Senate Commendation Award.”
