Senator Sean Ryan Honors Anderson’s Frozen Custard As December ‘Small Business Of The Month’

KENMORE, N.Y. – Today, December 20, 2023, New York State Senator Sean Ryan announced that Anderson’s Frozen Custard has been selected as the 61st Senate District Small Business of the Month for December. Senator Ryan will present the company with a New York State Senate Empire Award in recognition of their commitment to keeping a family business thriving for over 75 years.

Anderson’s Frozen Custard was established in the Bronx in 1946 by Western New York natives Carl and Greta Anderson. One year later, homesick for their families, they opened a second location on Kenmore Avenue in Kenmore. In 1953, Anderson’s outgrew the Kenmore Avenue location and opened up a larger store on Sheridan Drive, which the Anderson family still operates 70 years later.

Today, owner Holly Anderson carries on her parents’ family tradition with her son, Torsten. Anderson’s still serves the frozen custard and roast beef on weck sandwiches that made them a local staple, but have expanded to offer a full menu at their six locations throughout Western New York, as well as a food truck and catering service. Anderson’s gives back to the community year-round through donations and fundraisers. Additionally, their staff and customers have raised funds to support local children at Camp Good Days and the Variety Club.

It’s great to see any local business still going strong after so many years, but it’s even more impressive that Anderson’s has remained a family business for 77 years. Here’s to many more!”

Senator Ryan will continue to highlight businesses that deserve special recognition for their contributions to the Western New York community throughout 2024. To nominate a business for the January award, individuals should fill out the nomination form here or at ryan.nysenate.gov by Sunday, Jan. 21.

Businesses that will receive special consideration during the selection process include:

• Companies that have created a culture of philanthropy and/or demonstrated exceptional leadership in the community
• Leaders in their industry and/or innovators in their field
• Promoters of economic growth in Western New York
• Family-owned businesses that have successfully passed from one generation to another
• Companies that conduct virtuous ethical practices and/or utilize green practices

To be eligible for the award, a business must be located in the 61st Senate District, which includes parts of the City of Buffalo, as well as the entireties of the City of Tonawanda, the Towns of Amherst, Grand Island, and Tonawanda, and the Villages of Kenmore and Williamsville.
