Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal and STPCV Tenants Association

On Friday, February 23, 2024, our property’s owner, Blackstone, decided to withdraw its appeal of our 2020 lawsuit to preserve more than 5,000 apartments here for rent stabilization. We discussed our victory on WBAI’s Housing Notebook.
Starting in 2020, many elected representatives supported us in our efforts to preserve rent protections for all residents in our community. We thank:

The members of the STPCV Tenants Association
Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine: “This is a huge win for StuyTown-PCV residents. I’m grateful to the Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association and partners for their tireless work to safeguard tenant protections and keep New York’s housing crisis from worsening.”
State Senator Kristen Gonzalez: "The decision by Blackstone to abandon their long-standing effort to deregulate thousands of apartments is a monumental victory for our community. It is a testament to the power of organized, hardworking New Yorkers and a clear demonstration of the importance of rent stabilization laws. I am proud to stand with the Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association, who have shown unwavering dedication in this fight. Their success is not only a win for the residents of these complexes but for all rent-stabilized tenants across the city and state."
Assemblymember Harvey Epstein: “Congratulations to the Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association for working tirelessly to preserve rent-stabilized housing in Manhattan’s largest apartment complex. This decision reaffirms the change we made in the 2019 Housing Stability & Tenant Protection Act, which I co-authored, preserving all apartments in Stuy Town as rent-stabilized. We must never stop fighting for affordable housing in our community.”
State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal: "I'm extremely grateful to the Stuyvesant Town– Peter Cooper Village (ST-PCV) Tenants Association and lawyer Tim Collins for fighting to ensure that thousands of rental units at ST-PCV will not be subject to deregulation and remain affordable for future generations of New Yorkers because of the J-51 tax benefits received by the landlord. This litigation not only helps our community at ST-PCV remain a bastion of housing affordability, but it will help ensure countless other similarly situated rent-stabilized tenants across New York remain in their homes and protected from eviction by our landmark Housing Stability Tenant and Protection Act of 2019."
City Council Member Keith Powers: “This is a huge victory for my neighbors in Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village and for all rent-stabilized New Yorkers. Affirming that these historic tenant protections stay in place is pivotal for thousands of families who can rest easier now knowing this uncertainty is behind us. The Tenants Association has done a tremendous job here, and I am proud to have stood with them every step of the way to keep Stuyvesant Town–Peter Cooper Village the best neighborhood in the best city in the world.”
