Senator Iwen Chu Allocates $5.8 Million for 23 Schools in Her First Term and Attends 19 Public School Graduations in June

Brooklyn, NY, June 25, 2024 – New York State Senator Iwen Chu recently attended 19 public school graduations within her district, demonstrating her continuous commitment to public education and youth development. She celebrated with students, families, and educators, proudly presented funding checks that culminated in a total allocation of $5.8 million for 23 public schools during her first term in office.
As a public-school mom, Senator Chu is dedicated to improving educational facilities and resources. From the start of her term, she fought hard to secure increased funding from the state for her district. She is also a familiar face at local schools, frequently participating in events such as PS 177 and IS 228’s Career Day, IS 187’s ABL Law Day, New Utrecht High School’s Government Class Visit, and various Back-to-School events.
"Seeing the joy and pride on the faces of our graduates is incredibly inspiring," said Senator Chu. "These students are the future of our community, they are the future generations of our leaders. It is our responsibility to ensure they have the best possible start.”
During her speeches, Senator Chu encouraged students to remember the importance of giving back to their communities. “Once you can, always remember to bring it back to your community, bring it back to your family,” she said. She remains committed to prioritizing education and pledges to keep advocating for the resources that schools need.
The $5.8 million allocated by Senator Chu will be directed towards various improvements, including:
- Upgrading technology and classroom resources
- Improving sports facilities and equipment
- Renovating playground floors and school gardens
- Installing air conditioners
During the graduation ceremonies, Senator Chu presented the funding checks, personally congratulated the graduates, and thanked the teachers and parents. She also received artwork gift from IS 187 school community.
The schools receiving funding include Brooklyn Tech High School, PS 69, PS 97, PS 101, PS 112, PS 128, PS 163, PS 169, PS 170, PS 176, PS 177, PS 179, PS 186, IS 187, PS 200, PS 204, PS 205, PS 212, IS 228, PS 230, PS 247, PS 310, PS 748.
