Senator Iwen Chu Celebrates Lunar New Year 2024: Year of the Dragon in Southern Brooklyn

Over a dozen community groups partnered to bring celebrations to local communities.
2024 marks the Year of the Dragon symbolizing strength, prosperity, good fortune, wisdom, and power. Traditional celebrations usher in a year of good luck and spread joy among each other. Senator Iwen Chu is proud to work with over a dozen community groups to host community celebrations open to all to attend. Everyone is welcome to partake and enjoy traditional lion dances, Kung-Fu demonstrations, and performances by local schools, among other cultural festivities.
FIAO Lunar New Year Festival
• Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Il Centro located at 8711 18th Ave., Brooklyn NY 11214 at 2:00 PM- 3:00 PM
• Partners: FIAO, United Chinese Association of Brooklyn, Chinese American Social Services Center, and Homecrest Community Services
• This year, the Year of the Dragon will be ushered in by the traditional Lion Dance followed by folk dances and songs and it will culminate with traditional food.
Chinese American Social Services Center Lunar New Year Celebration Parade
• Sunday, February 11, 2024. The parade begins at 10:30 A.M.
• 66th Street and 18th Ave, Brooklyn New York 11204
Brooklyn Chinese-American Association 35th Annual Lunar New Year Parade
• Sunday, February 11, 2024. Opening Ceremony 11:00 A.M. with a speaking program, firecrackers, and performances, parade will begin at 1:00 P.M. and conclude at 2:30 P.M.
• The parade will be led by the Head Lion and their VIP guests, starting at 8th Avenue and 50th Street until its finale on 61st Street.
The Parent-Child Relationship Association Lantern Festival
• Saturday, February 17th, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.
• Hosted by Parent-Child Relationship Association (PCR)
• Leif Ericson Park, located at 9th Avenue & 67th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220
• There will be over 200 families attending to ring in the New Year.
RaisingHealth Lunar New Year Celebration
• Saturday, February 17th, from 12:00 P.M. - 3:00 P.M.
• Hosted by RaisingHealth
• Gymnasium of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, at 545 60th Street, Brooklyn NY 11220.
• Food, performances, music, arts and crafts activities, and wellness resources for over 350 community members in collaboration with community partners
Senator Iwen Chu’s Southern Brooklyn Lunar New Year Celebration
• Saturday, March 2, 2024, 11:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. at I.S. 96, 99 Ave P.
• A Lunar New Year celebration put together by over 20 community organizations in southern Brooklyn.
• Featuring cultural dance and song performances, free giveaway, dragon mascot distribution and raffle.
Senator Iwen Chu is the first Asian American woman elected to the New York State Senate. She represents Senate District 17, an Asian majority district in southern Brooklyn, including the neighborhoods of Sunset Park, Bensonhurst, Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Kensington.
