Senator Tedisco presents state Senate’s highest award for small businesses to beloved Niskayuna restaurant for being the “heartbeat” of the community
Senator Jim Tedisco (R,C-Ballston Lake) today announced that he has honored The Broken Inn in Niskayuna with a New York State Senate Empire Award, the Senate’s highest award for small businesses.
The Broken Inn, located at 2209 Nott Street in Niskayuna, was nominated for the Empire Award by one of its customers, Joanna Begg, of Schenectady, for being the “heartbeat” of the community and for its “wholesome family atmosphere.”
The Broken Inn regularly donates proceeds from its profits to local school, youth, and community initiatives. It recently sponsored a 20,000 light luminaire display on Christmas Eve, has the only walk-up ice cream and hot dog stand in town, and goes on the road for community events and Niskayuna High School home football games. The tavern, which is owned by Tommy Nichhi, hosts a walking club, trivia night and is a gathering spot for Buffalo Bills and Penn State fans to watch their teams play.
Senator Tedisco paid The Broken Inn a surprise visit to honor them with the Empire Award.
“The Broken Inn not only has some of the best chicken wings around, but it’s also a very special gathering spot for residents in Niskayuna and Schenectady and a wonderful supporter of the community in the 44th Senate District. I’m proud to recognize the exceptional community service The Broken Inn provides our area by honoring this wonderful small business with the Senate’s highest award for businesses, the Empire Award. Congrats to owner Tommy Nicchi and his hard-working and dedicated staff for their great work,” said Senator Jim Tedisco.
