Queens, NY – State Senator John Liu today called on the MTA to incorporate more feedback from Queens bus riders to ensure the final plan of the Queens Bus Redesign achieves its intended goals of creating more reliable service, faster travel and better connections.
Liu, a member of the Senate Transportation Committee, cited concerns from bus riders in subway-deprived neighborhoods in northeast Queens and noted the Proposed Final Plan focuses more on cutting costs rather than improving service. Among the issues highlighted are concerns over reductions to express bus service, access to Bell Boulevard, business corridors, senior centers and religious institutions, and congestion in downtown Flushing.
He stated, “As we approach the final phase of the redesign, the MTA must incorporate these community concerns into the final plan and engage more closely with riders in northeast Queens to develop solutions that better serve our needs. As the largest bus network in the five boroughs, it is imperative that this redesign improve service for all residents.”
