Senator Liu inducts Flushing resident, Ryan Su, into New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame

Albany, NY - Today, State Senator John Liu inducted Flushing resident Ryan Su into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was established in 2005 to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves in both military and civilian life. 

State Senator John Liu stated, “Ryan Su’s induction into the New York State Veteran’s Hall of Fame is a testament to his exemplary service in the military and his dedication to public safety. His hard work, leadership and devotion to serving his country are evident in his service to his community both in and out of uniform. For his commitment to putting the safety and well-being of his community first, we are proud to induct Ryan Su into the Veterans Hall of Fame.”

Ryan Su stated, “When I was in high school, I knew John Liu as the first Asian American elected official in NYC who always helped his community, so it is a tremendous honor to be inducted by him into the Veterans Hall of Fame. This award is not just for me, but all who have trusted and supported me - it is for the community. I will always cherish my time in the military, and I look forward to continuing to work with our community to build a stronger and safer society for future generations.”

Ryan Su served in the United States Army from 2012 to 2015 as an E-4 Specialist. During this time, he amassed a variety of experience as an Infantryman, Intelligence Analyst and Anti-Armor Specialist. His service, although cut short by a medically honorable discharge following a training accident, was marked by his sincere commitment and recognition by the Army. He was awarded the Army Achievement Medal, the American Defense Service Medal (2013), the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal (2012), and the Army Service Ribbon. In 2023, he was honored with the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, a testament to his ongoing commitment to community service. 

Before his military career, Ryan was actively involved with the New York Police Department’s Auxiliary Volunteer Program from 2004 to 2011. This period was instrumental in shaping his commitment to public service and community safety. Following his military service, he served briefly in the Department of Homeland Security, within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), before deciding to prioritize his family’s needs and returning to New York.

Today, his mission continues as he strives to leverage his experience in military and law enforcement to educate and assist our community in New York using a social media platform. His path has been one of dedication to service, in uniform and beyond, and he is committed to making a positive impact wherever possible.
